Verse 1 Night-time fell upon the old forest. The trees drew closer & hummed a song. An old man stumbled through the darkness. He'd travelled far & he'd travelled long. Chorus How he dreamed of a roaring fire, To ease his mind & rest his weary bones. All he needed was a little warmth & light To burn away the deepest, darkest night. Verse 2 He came upon a tiny cottage & slowly, slowly he drew night. By the fire sat an old lady. He fell to his knees & he cried. Chorus For he had dreamed of a roaring fire, To ease his mind & rest his weary bones. All he needed was a little warmth & light To burn away the deepest, darkest night. Verse 3 The lady took him to the fire & held him close & said not a word. Soon enough sleep overcame him. His mind drifted his vision blurred. Chorus As he dreamed of a roaring fire To ease his mind & rest his weary bones All he needed was a little warmth & light To burn away the deepest, darkest night. Verse 4 As time passed by strange things happened His hair grew paler & lined with gold. She could see his strength returning Just as the whispering trees foretold. Chorus Old man to young man and now a child, Eyes full of wonder & mischief & fun Just as the night came to greet the morning He leapt up to the sky & became the sun Old Mother Of Days with your fire You eased his mind & his weary bones You gave him warmth & just enough light To burn away the deepest, darkest night. Yes you burned away the deepest, darkest night. Deepest, darkest night.

Off To Sea 04:15
Verse 1 Today my love is off to sea. He's gone to fight for his own country. This lad is barely 22 He's strong & brave & just & true & I hope that you return love With that smile upon your face That winning smile That no-one can replace. Verse 2 Oh see them marching 1,2,3 Aboard the finest ship you ever shall see. Do you think he saw me in the crowd With all those loved ones gathered round. But by the time I said I love you The words were wasted on the wind. His ship had set its sail & he was leaving. Verse 3 He knew that I would not agree With war & all its mindless futility. & as I went to walk away These final words I heard him say. Oh I couldn't think of us love When I signed my soul away For the men who call to arms We must obey. Verse 4 Today my love is off to war He's gone to fight but I don't know what for This lad is only 22 He's young & foolish through & through. Bloody war it takes men by the hand & it leads them all away. Fighting god knows who, god knows where & there they'll stay. But by the time I said I love you The words were wasted on the wind. His ship had set its sail & he was leaving.

There was a lady lived in York All alone, alone O, Was courted by her Fathers clerk Down by the greenwood side O. She leaned her back against an oak All alone, alone O, But first it bent & then it broke Down by the greenwood side O. She leaned herself against a thorn All alone, alone O, & there 2 pretty babes were born Down by the greenwood side O. She had a pen-knife long & sharp All alone, alone O, She pressed it through their tender hearts Down by the greenwood side O. She dug a grave both wide & long All alone, alone O, & she buried them under a marble stone Down by the greenwood side O. Later at her Fathers hall All alone, alone O, She saw 2 babes a playing ball Down by the greenwood side O. O babes, O babes if you were mine All alone, alone O, I'd dress you up in scarlet fine Down by the greenwood side O. Mother, O Mother we once were thine All alone, alone O, But you did not dress us in scarlet fine Down by the greenwood side O. You dug a grave both wide & long All alone, alone O, & you buried us under a marble stone Down by the greenwood side O. Babes, O babes come tell to me All alone, alone O, Just what the future means for me Down by the greenwood side O. Mother, O Mother you know right well All alone, alone O, It's we for heaven & you for hell Down by the greenwood side O. It's we for heaven & you for hell Down by the greenwood side O.

Annie Laurie 03:47
Maxwelton's braes are bonny Where early falls the dew & it's there that Annie Laurie Gave me her promise true. Gave me her promise true which ne'er forgot will be & for bonny Annie Laurie I'd lay me down & die. Her brow is like the snowfall Her neck is like the swan Her face it is the fairest That e'er the sun shone on. That e'er the sun shone on & dark blue is her eye & for bonny Annie Laurie I'd lay me down & die. Like dew on the gowan lying Is the fall of her fairy feet & like winds in summer sighing Her voice is low & sweet. Her voice is low & sweet & she's the world to me & for bonny Annie Laurie I'd lay me down, lay me down, I'd lay me down & die.
