about

Lord Rendall is a Child Ballad, traditional folk song often titled Lord Randal. We arranged it for full band with a contemporary instrumental at the end. The Lord in the story reveals through a conversation with his mother that he has been poisoned by his sweetheart.

lyrics

Where've you been all the day
Rendall my son?
Where've you been all the day
my pretty one?
I've been to me sweethearts
& make my bed soon
for I'm sick to my heart
& I fain would lie down.

What have you eaten
Rendall my son?
What have you eaten
my pretty one?
Eels & broth mother
& make my bed soon
for I'm sick to my heart
& I fain would lie down.

Where did she get them from
Rendall my son?
Where did she get them
my pretty one?
From hedges & ditches
& make my bed soon
for I'm sick to my heart
& I fain would lie down.

What colour were the eels
Rendall my son?
What colour were they
my pretty one?
Spicket & sparkit
& make my bed soon
for I'm sick to my heart
& I fain would lie down.

What will you give your father
Rendall my son?
What will you give him
my pretty one?
My houses & land mother
& make my bed soon
for I'm sick to my heart
& I fain would lie down.

What will you give your mother
Rendall my son?
What will you give me
my pretty one?
oh gold & silver
& make my bed soon
for I'm sick to my heart
& I fain would lie down.

What will you give your girl
Rendall my son?
What will you give her
my pretty one?
A rope to hang her
& make my bed soon
for I'm sick to my heart
& I fain would lie down.

She is perhaps best known for her work with The Greenwood and ‘folk supergroup’ The Company Of Players.
